Supporting our Buddies! 24.6.16

Partnership is a core value here at Cabot.  Today year 6 did an excellent job supporting their reception buddies in their maths and computing learning.  We found that teaching ideas is not always an easy task!

Science - exploring forces 22.6.16

This term our topic in science is forces.  In class we have used a Newton meter to measure the force of gravity.

Chess tournament 21.6.16

On Tuesday the 21st of June 8 students from Cabot primary school attended a chess tournament at Henleaze primary school. The 8 students were selected for the tournament because they had come top of our own mini tournament in school. We took two taxis to Henleaze and we went with Mrs Green and Mrs Mepham.

At 1 o’clock it started. We had about 5 matches each; coming very high in the leader board. Amazingly, Tauheed won all his matches and got a medal for his hard work.

Two teams attended: One was called Cabot Crushers and the other was called Cabot Eliminators. Fantastically, Cabot eliminators came 11th out of 27 and Cabot Crushers came amazingly high: 5th of out 27. Cabot crushers were also the best year sixes there therefore we got medals and a magnetic chess set. We went back to school and took our medals home. On Monday we will celebrate our achievement with the whole school.

17.6.16 National Youth Jazz Orchestra Educational Visit

In year 6 we always seek to provide a range of experiences to broaden our wider understanding of the world.  Today, as part of our music learning,  we were very lucky to have the opportunity to visit the Colston Hall (a very important and historic Bristol building) to watch a performance by the National Jazz Orchestra.  Not only did we have a unique chance to experience professional music; but the band leader provided us with a huge range of knowledge - ranging from how the music is arranged to the names and sounds of the specific instruments.  As well acquiring knowledge key to the national curriculum, we had a brilliant time!

Ship building 10.6.16

Year 6 had an amazing day today.  We were visited by Hugh, Warwick, Polly, Anna and Oana, from Bristol Loves Tides, who ran a Young Shipwrights (ship builders) workshop.
Across the day year 6 worked in groups to build a model of the Mathew (as sailed by John Cabot and the boat which is the emblem of our school).  Some parts were very fiddly so we had work well in teams in order to carefully construct our ships.
Later this term (on the 16th July) the finished products will be sailed - along side another 90-odd boats - in Bristol harbour as part of the Harbour Festival 2016.  We hope that all Year 6 pupils and their families will be there to see the boats sail.

Lifeskills 8.6.16

On Wednesday afternoon Year 6  attended ‘Lifeskills’ at The Create Centre. Lifeskills is an interactive safety education centre, built as a realistic village, which has been developed to teach people how to deal with potentially difficult or dangerous situations, whilst in a safe environment.  We learnt a lot about keeping ourselves safe, but also had fun.
