French week 12.2.15

Bonjour!
This week has been French week.  In year 6 we learned: l'histoire et la cuisine (History and Cooking).
In History we found out about the Norman Conquest and in Cooking we made croissants and learned how to say what we are having for breakfast.
Très bien!

Making Croissants

Madame Cartlidge demonstrated the process:

The instructions help guide us through the making.

It took good concentration and precise work to roll the croissants accurately.  We added either chocolate or marzipan to flavour the croissants.

Final touch - make it into a crescent before baking in the oven.

The finished product!

...And of course the taste test!!!

Safer Internet Week 9.2.15

Today year 6 were visited by Bijou and Krimo, our local PCSOs.  They reminded us of the importance of keeping safe when using the internet.  At Cabot we always keep the SMART rules in mind when using the internet: Safe (keep personal details private), Meet (never meet someone you have met through the internet), Accept (Do not accept unknown emails or requests), Reliable (do not trust everything you find on the internet to be true!), Tell (If you are worried about anything you come across on the internet make sure you tell a trusted adult).

Simon Bell BBC producer visit 6.2.15

We were lucky enough to welcome Simon Bell, producer at the BBC's Natural History Unit, to our class today.  Simon gave us a fascinating insight into how the BBC make their programs.  We learned that in order to make these series, years of planning, filming and editing are put into producing the final outcome.
You can find out more about how 'Hidden Kingdoms' (a series Simon produced) was made by following the link below:
