Black History Week - Drumming workshop and performance 28.9.15

To kick off Black History Week 2016, year 6 took part in an African drumming workshop.  During the workshop we learned how to get different tones out of the instruments as well as learning rhythms, which we then performed to the rest of the school at the end of the afternoon.

Chinese Food tasting - 17.9.15

In terms 1 and 2 our focus is going to be China.  In term 1 we will look at Ancient China and the Shang Dynasty.  In term 2 we will be exploring the geography of China using a range of sources.

As an introduction to the topic, today we tasted some Chinese food that is available to buy here in the UK.  We began with spicy crackers and sweet chilli sauce.  Next, we sampled vegetarian spring Rolls.  After that, we tucked into some delicious chicken spring rolls.  We then tried some chow mein flavoured noodles.  Finally, we used the D and T room to remove the message from a fortune cookie in order to replace it with a message written by year 6.  The cookies were then  taken home to be given to a friend or family member for whom the message would be relevant.

Although it was a great afternoon of enjoying some tasty delights, the chop sticks were quite tricky to master!

We wrapped the cookies in a damp tea towel and put them in the microwave.  This made the cookies soft so that we could open them, take the message out and replace with our own message.

Welcome back! 2.9.15

Welcome back to our new 2015-2016 year 6 class.  Mr Ross and Miss Huish are very much looking forward to all the fantastic learning that is going to happen this year!
