Balloon release 27.4.16

On Monday Miss Hunter found a balloon when leaving school.  This made her think, "Where has this balloon come from?".  So she has organised for every pupil in the school to have a balloon to attempt to find out how far a balloon (which is inflated by helium) can travel.  In order to do this, we all wrote a label asking the finder of the balloon to contact the school to say where the balloon was found - the contact details for the school were on the label.  So that we were safe, we ensured no personal details were included on the balloon.  We are really excited to find out how far our balloons will travel!

Fruit Solar System 20.4.16

To get an idea of the relative size and position of the planet, year 6 used fruit to represent the 8 planets in the Solar System.  Once we had established which fruit represented which planet, we then went out into the playground to show the relative distance from the sun.
Once we had finished modelling, we ate our Solar System!

Spelling Bee 19.4.16

Today 6 year six children participated in a spelling bee with our '4learning Partnership' (Glenfrome, St Werburghs and St Barnabas).  The event took place at Glenfrome Primary.  Although we didn't win, we still had a Cabot pupil in right up until the last round!  Well done to all who took part!

Planetarium visit 13.4.16

To "launch" our 'New Worlds, New Discoveries' topic, we were visited today by Mario and his inflatable planetarium.  Once inside, we found out lots of really interesting facts about our solar system and the future of space travel. At the end, we were able to touch a piece of the meteorite which landed in the Arazona desert about 50,000 years ago!

Visit from the Lord Major 16.3.16

Year 5 and 6 were very lucky to receive a visit from the Lord Major of Bristol.  She talked to pupils about the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects and pupils were able to share STEM experiences they have had in school.

Foyles Book Shop visit 2.2.16

As part of 'Book Week', year 6 visited Foyles book shop.  Pupils were able to exchange their book token for a free book!
