Mama Africa Performance - City Academy 14.11.14

Our talented Year Six pupils entertained and impressed the audience as they opened the show at City Academy on Friday night.
The performance was a mixture of powerful poetry and a hugely energetic dance routine.  The thought provoking poems, written by the children themselves, were performed beautifully. Inspired by the children’s research into African music, the poems were full of expression and feeling.
The poets left the stage and the dancers made their dramatic entrance, moving to the sound of the live musicians on stage. The routine was full of energy, colour and enthusiasm from start to finish. The children danced as a group, individually and in pairs, impressing the audience with some complicated moves and excellent timing!
Well done to all the children involved in the performance.

Mama Africa Dress Rehearsal 12.11.14

Lights, Camera...Action!
Year 6 performed a fantastic dress rehearsal of our Mama Africa project for the whole school this morning.  We are now feeling very excited about showcasing our talent with schools from across Bristol on Friday evening at City Academy theatre.

Well done Year 6!

First Aid Workshop 10.11.14

On the afternoon of the 10th of November 2014 Year 6 took part in a first aid workshop provide by the British Red Cross.  In the workshop we learnt how to respond to a variety of first aid situations including: an unconscious person, an asthma attack, a burn, a heavily bleeding wound and a broken bone.  We took part in role plays, games, watched videos to help us understand what to do if faced with a situation where first aid is needed.  Most importantly we need to remember:  D.R.A.B (Danger, Response, Airways, Breathing) and always seek help as soon as possible.

Proud-2-Be

PROUD2BDAYLOGO
On the Thursday before half term year 6 took part in a project called 'Proud-2-Be'. Proud2B aims to tackle root causes of prejudice and discrimination through providing opportunities for inter-community learning. Schools from different areas of Bristol are brought together to participate in media and arts activities that enable them to explore their identity, culture and shared sense of community. The project aims to improve tolerance and understanding between children from different areas of the City.  Across the day the children completed three different workshops: Art, podcasting and music.

Music Week 2014

During music week we were very lucky to work with the 'Bristol Plays Music' team. Across the day we composed music on the iPads and wrote the lyrics and melody for a school anthem. Below there is a recorded version of the song you can listen to, hosted by Sound Cloud.
