Spelling Bee - 27.4.17
Six pupils from year 6 did a fantastic job representing the school at the annual spelling Bee competition. This year five schools participated: Banerman Road, St Werburghs, Glenfrome, St Barnabas and Cabot Primary.
All the children representing their schools's performed extremely well - every word from the year 5/6 statutory list was accurately spelled. Cabot managed to stay in until the last five children, but were just pipped to the post by St Barnabas, who were the overall winner.
Well done to all who participated!

Building the Matthew 7.2.17
This term year 6 are studying explorers and their link to Bristol's local history. We have focused particularly on John Cabot and his voyage in 1497 when he made contact with Newfoundland, Canada. As part of this topic, we were lucky enough to participate in a workshop where we worked in teams to build a model of the Matthew, Cabot's ship. Once decorated, these boats will be raced as part of Bristol's Harbourside festival in July.
Maths week 6.2.17
This week is maths week. Each class has been given a £15 budget to purchase and make a product to sell on Friday. Year 6 have chosen to make accessories. So far we have made loom bands to sell and later this week we will be making bespoke pin badges to sell on Friday.

French week January 2017
This week has been French Week. The theme this year was ‘fetsivals’. In year 6 we learned about ‘La Fête des Rois’. This festival is a celebration in France
that takes place on the first Sunday after New Year ’s Day.
In 2017, it was on 8th January. The galette des rois is
a cake made from puff pastry with almond paste inside and is eaten on this day.
A little plastic or china charm is placed inside the cake
before serving it. Originally a bean was
placed inside the cake, which is a “fève” in French, and the word is now used
for the charm.
During the cutting of the cake, the youngest member of the
family goes under the table.
The person cutting the galette asks for every slice “Pour
qui?” (= Whom for?). The child under
the table chooses the order in which people should be given a slice. Everyone has a piece of the cake, eats it and
hopes to have the fève in it. Whoever finds the fève becomes the king or the queen !
