Today year 6 were visited by Bijou and Krimo, our local PCSOs. They reminded us of the importance of keeping safe when using the internet. At Cabot we always keep the SMART rules in mind when using the internet: Safe (keep personal details private), Meet (never meet someone you have met through the internet), Accept (Do not accept unknown emails or requests), Reliable (do not trust everything you find on the internet to be true!), Tell (If you are worried about anything you come across on the internet make sure you tell a trusted adult).

Simon Bell BBC producer visit 6.2.15
We were lucky enough to welcome Simon Bell, producer at the BBC's Natural History Unit, to our class today. Simon gave us a fascinating insight into how the BBC make their programs. We learned that in order to make these series, years of planning, filming and editing are put into producing the final outcome.
You can find out more about how 'Hidden Kingdoms' (a series Simon produced) was made by following the link below:

Maths week - Visit from Jill Fitzgerald 21.1.15
As part of maths week, we were visited today by Jill Fitzgerald. Jill is a chartered accountant who works for 'Specialist': www.specialistuk.com , an advertising company. She explained how her business operates and about general business models. We discussed revenue, profit and expense as well as what we need to do to help maximise our profits. Additinally, Jill showed us how much maths was needed for the company as a whole, not just calculating revenue, expense and profit but also collecting and analysing data to show the impact of their services. It was a very interesting presentation and years 5 and 6 were able to contribute a lot about the products they will be selling on Friday.
A Selection of the magazines produced by Specialist to help promote and sell various products. |
Maths week 19.1.15 - Making our product
During maths week the classes have be set the challenge of spending a
budget of £10 to make products that can be sold to the rest of the
school. The aim of the project is to
make the most profit from what is sold; the profits will be donated to the
school council to spend on resources for the school.
In year 6 we have bought plain fibre pots. Next, we decorated the pots with popular comic characters: Minions, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Spiderman. Also, we have designed posters to encourage people to buy our product. Finally,on Friday we will sell the pots and hope to make a big profit.
We are also competing against other classes to get the most mathletics points. We have been using the iPads to help push up our score!

Volcanoes 15.12.14
We are leaning about how to write fantastic explanation texts at the moment. We built model volcanoes to help explain the eruption process. Keep checking our pupil blog to read some fantastic explanation texts later this week!
Building circuits Term 2
In science we have been learning about electricity and building simple circuits which use switches. We are using our understanding to help design and make an 'operation' style board game. The players have to remove parts from a human body with out touching the metal contacts and completing the circuit!
